Selling Products Online–Bad Economy Reason for Optimism?
I don’t know about you, but I think the economic downturn here in the United States is reason to be optimistic for small, single person online e-tailers. Don’t get me wrong, the economic crisis is horrible, but that does not mean you should give up on ecommerce or put the lid on any plans to start selling online or on eBay. Here’s why I think so.
My reasoning boils down to the sheer expense involved in keeping mega businesses alive. Basically, then, as the economy worsened, Circuit City, like many other businesses, ran into trouble meeting the expense of merely keeping the doors open. I’m also going to make a guess that Circuit City, like many other businesses, was able to function on a day to day basis because it was able to get the credit needed to meet those expenses. As soon as access to credit froze, it tanked. In a word.
You and I, my friends, do not have the problem of being a top heavy behemoth mere inches away from crashing even in a sound economy. We are so small, that it takes very little for us to see a profit, and the amount of money it takes for us to be “rich” is mere pocket change to the mega businesses. We can potentially thrive on “pocket change.” We can eat, drink and be merry for years on an amount of money that a mega business could not survive 15 seconds with. My point is that you and I can slip in under the nose of a mega business and potentially profit handsomely and remain completely under the radar.
