EBay Products Suppliers–Can I Make Money Dropshipping on EBay?

Finding products to sell online and more specifically, finding EBay products suppliers, is an important but distinct issue from whether or not you can make money dropshipping on EBay. So, can you make money with dropship companies and other dropship wholesale suppliers when competing in the EBay marketplace? Is dropshipping good, or is it bad?

Dropshipping just by itself isn’t bad, per se, just misunderstood. It is perhaps the sad, little misunderstood child of ecommerce and Internet marketing. Dropshipping on EBay is difficult. At present time, I think it is generally true to say that the EBay marketplace is a tough nut to crack with dropshipping. First of all, EBay is essentially a wholesale selling environment. That means that almost all the mass market goods sold are already at or below wholesale prices. One of the biggest mistakes a newcomer can make is to purchase goods at wholesale prices and then expect to sell them at retail on EBay. When you add in all of the EBay fees, it is very unlikely that you can be competitive and still make a profit. There are different kinds of goods and different sourcing strategies that are typically more successful on EBay than dropshipping mass market consumer products.

When does dropshipping work? Dropshipping can be a very successful strategy with an ecommerce site. Dropshipping and ecommerce can be a find match, indeed. But, consider this: Are dropshipping companies the same thing as wholesale companies who dropship? No. A dropship company is typically a retail company who dropships discounted goods under your business name to your clients after you have paid for them. Although there may be some exceptions, dropship companies are generally not wholesale distributors.

In order for you to succeed with dropshipping and ecommerce, you will need to find product distributors who are in business to sell their particular product line and who offer dropshipping as a service. WYNIT and Petra would be two such examples in the consumer electronics line. You probably would not want to plan on selling their products on EBay, but you might do very well with ecommerce with the proper research and business planning. Remember, ecommerce is a business, not a gimmick or an Internet marketing get-rich-quick scheme. And a business needs planning for the long haul.
